Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

The Diamond Institute is among the first in the United States and the first center in New Jersey to offer ICSI to its patients.  The main indication to the use of ICSI techniques is male factor infertility; however it also has been used as part of PGD cycle as well as in patients who had previous IVF cycles with low fertilization despite normal sperm.

ICSI is a process in which a single sperm is selected to be injected into a mature egg to create an embryo for embryo transfer.  The sperm can be isolated from the ejaculate or can be retrieved directly from the testicle for men with Azoospermia (no sperm in the ejaculation).  By performing ICSI we help the sperm with the fertilization process enabling low sperm quality to function as normal sperm in order to achieve pregnancy.
